Hobbled: Sunday Update Week 15

Injury Update:

In a season riddled with injuries, the hits just keep coming for the Bulls. Chandler Hutchison will be sidelined 2-4 weeks with a toe injury. He will be in a walking boot during his recovery time. Hutch hurt his toe in Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, but it wasn’t until after Friday’s loss to the L.A. Clippers when he realized there was a serious problem. Sadly, Hutch had one of his best games of the season against the Clippers, notching the 1st double-double of his career with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Other players struggling to stay healthy include Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen. LaVine’s ankle injury has flared up again, so he might miss some time, and Markkanen is nursing an issue with his hip. Both are listed as probable for today’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Bulls were 1-2 this week. They beat the Cavs on Monday, 104-88. They lost in deflating fashion to the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks, 121-101, on Wednesday. The Bulls finished the week with a much more competitive loss to the L.A. Clippers, 106-101.

MVP of the Week: Jabari Parker (4)

Parker only played in two of the three games this week, sitting out the loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a minor leg injury, but he led the team in Net Rating for the week with a +9.3. Only two other Bulls had positive net ratings (the team’s point differential per 100 possessions while the player is on the court), Robin Lopez (7.8) and Chandler Hutchison (1.3), every other player for the Bulls was in the negative. Parker also had the best Effective Field Goal Percentage (which adjusts regular field goal percentage by adding more value to 3 pointers) with 71.4%, and the best True Shooting Percentage (which factors in not only 3 pointers, but free throws as well) with 77.2%. Jabari has been playing very well in very limited minutes over the last few weeks. He’s beginning to make some of us doubters and skeptics sit up and take notice.

While his offensive statistics continue to gain momentum, Parker has also made modest strides on the defensive end. His defensive rating for the week was an even 100, the third best on the team. Over the last 15 games, Parker’s defensive rating has been 109.8, and while that number is nothing to brag about, it’s good enough to be 2nd on the team (Robin Lopez is 1st with a 107 DefRtg).

Bulls Win Share Leaders: Chasing Dickey Simpkins (2.9)

1. Ryan Arcidiacono 2.1

2. Wendell Carter Jr 1.9

3. Zach LaVine 1.2

The Bulls have 4 games this week. They will face the Cavs, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, and Charlotte Hornets. If the Bulls beat the Cavs today, they will have swept the season series. Get those brooms out Bulls fans, it’s happening!!!
