At last, the Bulls have traded Niko Mirotic!
In a deal that benefits both teams, the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans finally agreed on the terms of “The Niko Trade”.
The New Orleans Pelicans get Niko Mirotic and a 2nd round pick in the 2018 draft.
The Chicago Bulls get the Pelicans 1st round in the 2018 draft (unless it’s in the top 5, which it shouldn’t be), Jameer Nelson, Tony Allen, former Bull Omer Asik, and the right to swap 2nd round draft picks with the Pelicans in 2019 if they have a better pick than the Bulls.
Niko Mirotic gets the team option on his contract picked up (meaning he is guaranteed $12.5 million dollars next season) and the chance to start fresh with a playoff contending team.
Unfortunately, in order to make the deal work, the Bulls had to free up a roster spot. This meant waiving veteran guard Quincy Pondexter.
The internet buzz has the Bulls holding on to Omer Asik and Jameer Nelson, but Tony Allen will probably be waived as well.
This was the big trade Bulls fans have been waiting for. It was the trade I have been waiting for, and I think both sides did pretty well. There will be plenty of time to analyze the trade this weekend and in posts to come, but for now it looks like both teams should be happy with what they received.
And it probably won’t be the last move the Bulls make…
Bulls remain very active in trade talks, per league sources.

Love this trade and with the Cousins injury, the pick could potentially be quite high if the Pelicans have a big slip. I personally will be rooting for them to lose just about every remaining game so they can slip to the 6th pick. The highest pick they can go for the Bulls to keep it. LOL
